Funeral in the presence of the urn

Pre-arrangement

What's this?

Funeral in the presence of the urn If you’re choosing cremation but do not wish to have a ceremony in a place of worship or display the body in a funeral home, this package is for you. In addition to cremation and an urn, it includes all transportation of the deceased and the urn, a family commemoration in a funeral home or in one of our chapels, and the legal formalities of death.

The services

Recovery of the deceased person

Recovery of the deceased person

To report a death and have the deceased person transported to our premises, simply call 514-727-2847 or 1-888-727-2847. These numbers and the transportation service are in operation 24 hours a day, every day of the year and throughout Quebec. Transportation costs may be added to the price of the package if the location to be reached is more than 50 km from MontrĂ©al. While waiting for the two stretcher bearers to arrive, you don’t need to prepare anything (such as clothes or other articles) for the body.

Cremation container

The cremation container included in the package is made of cardboard. Other types of containers (sold separately from the package) are available, such as pine or MDF, or a wooden coffin.

Transfer to the crematorium and cremation

Transfer to the crematorium and cremation

Magnus Poirier has a modern crematorium operating 365 days a year at the Laval cemetery, and we can perform cremation at other locations.

Since a crematorium incinerates only one person at a time, allow three to seven days before the process can take place. The ashes are then recovered and placed in a container chosen by the family: urn, reliquary, etc. (not included in the package). Upon request, the family can attend the cremation.

Before this step, Magnus Poirier strongly encourages identification of the deceased at the funeral home, as this is an important stage of mourning. This allows family and loved ones to confirm the person’s identity and to pay their respects to them.

The urn included in the package can be made of wood or marble. Other options are available at an added cost: brass, bronze or ecological (biodegradable material).

Commemoration

Commemoration

This ceremony takes place in the presence of the urn and gathers the family and loved ones of the deceased to pay tribute to him or her. It is held in one of our chapels or funeral parlours. The family can then prepare and lead the tribute (additional cost for a religious officiant, regardless of religion).

Funeral direction

Funeral direction

A funeral director will coordinate the commemoration and, if there is an officiant, will act as the link between the officiant and the family. They can also go to the columbarium, if the urn is placed there, or to the cemetery, when the urn is buried or placed in a crypt there.

Handling of ashes and urn

Handling of ashes and urn

The Magnus Poirier team will proceed to a quality control of the urn,  preparation and placing of the ashes, and will insure the urn transfer to one of their funeral homes.
