The services
Recovery of the deceased person
To report a death and have the deceased person transported to our premises, simply call 514-727-2847 or 1-888-727-2847. These numbers and the transportation service are in operation 24 hours a day, every day of the year and throughout Quebec. Transportation costs may be added to the price of the package if the location to be reached is more than 50 km from MontrĂ©al. While waiting for the two stretcher bearers to arrive, you don’t need to prepare anything (such as clothes or other articles) for the body.
Asepsis (thanatological care)
In the funerary field, asepsis is a basic preparation of the body of the deceased for the purpose of allowing its identification by the family during the final viewing stage, before cremation. It is a surface treatment that cleans and disinfects the skin, nose, hair, and so on. In addition, the body is dressed, and the facial features are oriented properly (mouth and eyes closed).
Last viewing of the deceased
This is a time when close family (children and spouse of the deceased) gather at the remains before cremation. The body is placed on a cooling bed after having been aseptically treated (basic funeral care).
Thus, the family can identify the body—a ritual that we strongly recommend, as it is an important step in the grieving process—and say a final goodbye to the deceased.
Tribute at the funeral home
This tribute ceremony to the deceased is held at one of our funeral parlours and lasts about 20 minutes. The performance of a lay or religious officiant and one of our funeral directors is included in the price of the package. Family and friends are of course welcome to attend this tribute.
Cremation container
The cremation container included in the package is made of cardboard. Other types of containers (sold separately from the package) are available, such as pine or MDF, or a wooden coffin.
Transfer to the crematorium and cremation
Magnus Poirier has a modern crematorium operating 365 days a year at the Laval cemetery, and we can perform cremation at other locations.
Since a crematorium incinerates only one person at a time, allow three to seven days before the process can take place. The ashes are then recovered and placed in a container chosen by the family: urn, reliquary, etc. (not included in the package). Upon request, the family can attend the cremation.
Before this step, Magnus Poirier strongly encourages identification of the deceased at the funeral home, as this is an important stage of mourning. This allows family and loved ones to confirm the person’s identity and to pay their respects to them.
Choice of urns *
The urn included in the package is made of plastic. Other options are available at an added cost: brass, bronze or ecological (biodegradable material).
Handling of ashes and urn
The Magnus Poirier team will proceed to a quality control of the urn, preparation and placing of the ashes, and will insure the urn transfer to one of their funeral homes.
